If you're like most pastors, then you're always on the lookout for new ideas. Brother Wood has asked me to share with you a promotional idea that we have used in our church with great success and I hope that you will think about using it in your church as well. We call it the Thanksgiving Turkey Give-Away Day and here is how it works.
Two Sundays before Thanksgiving we give away a whole turkey along with all the fixings for a Thanksgiving dinner to every visiting family that attends the morning service that Sunday. The church pays for the turkeys with a special Thanksgiving offering that is received a week before the big day. The canned goods are donated by the people.
Twas the night before Jesus -and all through the house- not a creature was praying- not one in the house. Their bibles were lying all closed on the shelf. Everyone was just into their own self. The children were dressing to get into bed -not once ever kneeling or bowing their heads - and mom on the sofa with baby on her lap, was watching TV while I took a nap.

There are no
wasted visits.
I had already been told that my afternoon visit would be to a woman who was dying, but much worse than leaving this world, is that she was a practicing Jehovah Witness. When I met with my afternoon soul winners, a husband and wife team, they filled me in on the background of the dying woman. It would take twenty minutes of drive-time to reach the home and while making the commute I brought up the possibility that they might not let three Baptists in to see a dying JW. Kirk spoke up saying, “We have a backup plan. My mother is not saved and we can go over to her house to give the gospel.” I asked where she lived and it would be another twenty minutes further. When we reached the Jehovah Witness home, I sensed something wasn’t right. Within seconds the husband greeted us at the door with these words, “My wife died four days ago.”

At this time of year there is always a lot of talk about presents. The grandchildren are making out their list of wants for Christmas but they don’t give them to Santa anymore, they give them to Papa and Grandma. We ask for their list as it is hard to buy for eleven grands of various ages and it makes the job so much more pleasant this way.
Then we have all the office parties at work and Sunday School parties – all needing presents. What do we give our mates and our children? Sometimes, it can be an overwhelming experience.
There is a presence that is with us every minute of every day and so many of us...
A little boy asked his daddy to teach him to shave.
“Why?” inquired the father.
“Because my teacher said that the men who get
to heaven will get there only by a close shave.”
His sister interrupted: “Could this be why the pictures of angels never show any with whiskers?”

Question: The one question that I have been asked more than any other is, “How can I lead my loved ones to Christ?”
Answer: My dad was a Roman Catholic. When I accepted Christ at age seventeen, I began witnessing to him regularly. At first, my dad would have nothing to do with Christianity, but over time, his heart softened. After fifteen years of faithful witnessing, my dad finally accepted Christ as his personal Saviour on his deathbed. It was Father’s Day, June 16, 1991.
What joy filled my heart when Dad finally opened his heart to accept Christ. God was merciful to my dad because within minutes of accepting Christ, he went into a coma and never awoke.
"Rejoice, that the immortal God is born, so that mortal man may live in eternity."
~ John Huss
"This is wonderfully written with a story line that is not only instructive but keeps you wondering what's around the corner. Fallen Idols teaches the wonderful and glorious truth about the love, forgiveness and grace of God and in the same frame leads the reader to see the importance of applying the same to ones own life. A tremendous read to the young and old alike. A great gift to be given to anyone."
~Pastor John Hamilton
“The giving of gifts is not something man invented. God started the giving spree when He gave a gift beyond words, the unspeakable gift of His Son.”

Christmas is not about getting gifts, but of remembering the Savior, Jesus Christ, and honoring His gift to us.
